Sports card shows vs Pokemon card shows
Our calendar labels every show Sports cards, Pokemon & TCG or Sports + TCG, based on how the promoter describes it. Here is what changes between them.
Sports card shows
Baseball, basketball, football, hockey and soccer cards, from vintage to the newest releases. Expect cases of graded rookies, team and player bins, sealed hobby boxes and often autograph guests. Crowds range from long-time collectors to families.
Pokemon and TCG shows
Trading card game shows center on Pokemon and often include Magic: The Gathering, One Piece, Lorcana, Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragon Ball. Vendors sell singles, graded slabs, sealed booster boxes and accessories. Many TCG shows add trade nights, play areas or tournaments, and they skew younger.
Mixed shows
Most large shows are now mixed. A table of vintage baseball may sit next to a Japanese Pokemon specialist. If you collect both, these give you the most choice in one trip.
What is the same everywhere
- Bring cash, check recent sold prices, and ask before handling cards.
- Graded cards come from the same handful of companies across hobbies, PSA, Beckett, SGC and CGC among them.
- Dates move. Confirm with the promoter before you go.
